Four SaltsMost people out there probably just think of salt as the white, uniformly shaped, super-cheap commodity found in the baking aisle of the grocery store. But salt, like many foods, is actually far more complex than it appears. It comes in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors, with different tastes and textures.

We currently carry four different salts at the Wine Source, each with its unique personality.  Hiwa Kai black salt comes from Hawaii, and is quite stunning, shiny and slightly smoky due to the addition of activated charcoal, which is also thought to have health benefits.  The Himalayan Pink Salt is our most coarse salt and the only harvested from underground salt mines. It has an intense mineral taste, and its variegated hues of pink create a salient visual experience. Sel Gris and Fleur de Sel are both specialties of Brittany, France. Sel Gris is a moist light gSalt Stackray salt with a satisfying crunch, also known as Celtic Sea Salt.  Fleur de Sel is pure white and melts like snow on the tongue, it is considered by many to be the best salt in the world.

These salts are not only dazzling to the eye, they also bring on stronger more full-bodied flavors. So if you’re looking for an unusual and impressive gift for the food lover in your life, consider picking up one or two or all four of these incredible salts!
